Deciduous Fruit Gala Event – call for entries

The Deciduous Fruit Industry’s Gala Event will again take place in September this year, when the industry awards people of excellence that made a difference in their various fields of work.  This will be the 42^nd time these awards are made.

Nominations are currently open and Hortgro asks all fruit industry role-players to nominate worthy individuals for these prizes.

Especially important are the agricultural worker categories. Last year the judges decided to give the General Agricultural Worker of the Year Award to two worthy recipients: Sivuyile Maguga Solitswayi from the farm Bronaar in the Koue Bokkeveld and Irene Jansen from Wilhelm de Kock Boerdery near Worcester. “Acknowledging agricultural workers’ as the backbone of our industry is of the utmost importance to the industry,” says Dappie Smit, organiser of the event and Manager of the Dried Fruit Technical Services.

The categories are:

• Frontrunner
• General Agricultural Worker of the Year
• Innovation
• Novice
• Specialist Agricultural Worker of the Year
• Izethelo Award for outstanding Journalism
