If you can capture the essence of our deciduous fruit industry, specifically pome and stone fruit, then we want to hear from you!

Grab your camera or phone and capture your unique perspective. From shots of the fruit itself to the orchards, or trees, or the people who work them. Picking, pruning, packing, selling, eating, cooking, preserving, drying, decorating… As long as it features locally-produced peaches, pears, apples, nectarines, apricots, plums, prunes, cherries, or dried pome and stone fruit.

Official Rules & Regulations
We are looking for captivating images that capture the essence of our orchards, the dedication of our people, and the beauty of our pome and stone fruit.

Eligibility

• The competition is open to all South African citizens* 
• We especially encourage those working within the deciduous fruit industry to share the unique beauty they experience daily.

*This competition is closed to the directors, employees, agents or consultants of Hortgro and their immediate families and or household members.

Subject Matter
All entries must feature South African Pome fruit (Apples, Pears) and/or Stone fruit,  (Peaches, Apricots, Nectarines, Plums, Prunes, Fresh Prunes, and Cherries). Acceptable scenes include:

• Close-up or still life studies of fruit
• Orchard landscapes, trees, blossoms, and scenery.
• Production, harvesting, or packing scenes.
• Creative usage of fruit in food/culinary settings.
• Lifestyle shots of people enjoying/eating the fruit.
• Note: All fruit featured must be grown and produced within South Africa.

 Submission Guidelines

• Technical Specs: Images must be no smaller than 1MB and no larger than 9MB.
• Authenticity: No AI-generated images are allowed. Photos must be original works captured by the entrant.
• How to Enter: Send your entry via WhatsApp as a “Document” (to preserve quality) to 082 770 7858.
• Required Info: Each submission must include:
  The name of the competition.
  Full name of the entrant.
  Contact details.
  Title of the photograph (optional).

Consent & Privacy (POPIA Compliance)
If any person or group is identifiable in a photograph, the entry must be accompanied by proof of permission. You can provide this in two ways:

• Written Permission: A signed note authorising Hortgro to use their image on social media, websites, and promotional platforms (such as the Gala Awards).
• Voice Note Consent: Record the person speaking their consent and send it as part of the WhatsApp submission.
  What to say: “I [Name] give permission for my photo to be used in the Hortgro photography competition and on their social media platforms. My contact number is [Phone Number].”
• Entries featuring identifiable people without this proof will be disqualified.

Important Dates & Deadlines

• All entries must be received by 25 August 2026.

Prizes & Recognition

• Grand Prize: A cash prize of R10,000 will be awarded to the winner at the Hortgro Awards on 11 September 2026, at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West. The finalists’ images will be displayed at the same event.

• Top 10: The top 10 photographs will be featured on Hortgro’s social media platforms with full credit to the photographers, as well as in the SA Fruit Journal.

Judging & Rights
The judges’ ruling is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

• The judges reserve the right not to award a prize if no entries are deemed to be of sufficient merit.
• By entering, photographers grant Hortgro the right to display their images on social media and at official events for promotional purposes.

 

Gee jou kreatiwiteit vlerke en verbeeld ons bedryf

As jy die essensie van ons sagtevrugtebedryf, spesifiek kern- en steenvrugte, kan vasvang, wil ons graag van jou hoor! Gryp jou kamera of foon en kry jou unieke perspektief. Van skote van die vrugte self tot die bome in die boorde, of die mense wat dit bewerk. Pluk, snoei, pak, verkoop, eet, kook, bewaar, droogmaak, versier… Solank dit plaaslik-geproduseerde perskes, pere, appels, nektariens, appelkose, pruime, vars pruimedante, kersies, of gedroogde kern- en steenvrugte bevat.

Reëls & Regulasies
Ons is op soek na asemrowende foto’s wat die wese van ons boorde, die toewyding van ons mense en die prag van ons kern- en steenvrugte vasvang.

Wie kan inskryf?

• Die kompetisie is oop vir alle Suid-Afrikaanse burgers.*
• Ons moedig veral diegene wat binne die sagtevrugtebedryf werk aan om julle daagliks ervarings, te deel.
• Direkteure, werknemers, agente of konsultante van Hortgro, asook hul gesinne, mag ongelukkig nie deelneem nie.

Onderwerpe
Alle inskrywings moet iets te make hê met Suid-Afrikaanse Kernvrugte (Appels, Pere) en/of Steenvrugte (Perskes, Appelkose, Nektariens, Pruime, Droogpruime, Vars Pruimedante en Kersies). Fotomateriaal spesifikasie:

• Nabyskote of stillewes van vrugte
• Boordlandskappe, vrugtebome, bloeisels en natuurskoon.
• Produksie-, oes- of pakhuistonele.
• Kreatiewe gebruik van vrugte in kos/kulinêre instellings.
• Leefstylfoto’s van mense wat die vrugte geniet/eet/uitstal.

Let wel: Alle vrugte op die foto’s moet in Suid-Afrika verbou en geproduseer word.

Riglyne vir Inskrywings

• Tegniese Spesifikasies: Beelde moet tussen 1 MB en 9 MB groot wees.
• Oorspronklikheid: Geen KI-gegenereerde beelde (AI) word toegelaat nie. Foto’s moet oorspronklike werke wees wat deur die deelnemer geneem is.
• Hoe om in te skryf: Stuur jou inskrywing via WhatsApp as ‘n “Document” (om die kwaliteit te behou) na 082 770 7858.

Vereiste Inligting: Elke inskrywing moet die volgende insluit:

1. Die naam van die kompetisie.
2. Volle naam van die deelnemer.
3. Kontakbesonderhede.
4. Titel van die foto (opsioneel).

Toestemming & Privaatheid (POPIA-voldoening)
Indien enige persoon of groep identifiseerbaar is in ‘n foto, moet die inskrywing vergesel word van bewys van toestemming. Jy kan dit op twee maniere doen:

• Skriftelike Toestemming: ‘n Getekende briefie waarin hulle toestemming gee dat hul beeld deur Hortgro op sosiale media, webwerwe en promosieplatforms (soos die Gala-toekennings) gebruik mag word.
• Stemnota-toestemming: Neem die persoon se toestemming op en stuur dit as deel van die WhatsApp-inskrywing.
  Wat om te sê: “Ek [Naam] gee toestemming dat my foto gebruik mag word in die Hortgro-fotografiekompetisie en op hul sosiale mediaplatforms. My kontaknommer is [Telefoonnommer].”
  • Inskrywings van identifiseerbare mense sonder hierdie bewys sal gediskwalifiseer word.

Belangrike Datums & Sperdatums
Alle inskrywings moet teen 25 Augustus 2026 ontvang word.

Pryse & Erkenning

• Hoofprys: ‘n Kontantprys van R10,000 sal aan die wenner tydens die jaarlikse Hortgro Toekennings oorhandig word. Finaliste se foto’s sal ook by die Hortgro toekennings-aand uitgestal word.

• Top 10: Die top 10 foto’s sal op Hortgro se sosiale mediaplatforms, asook in die SA Vrugtejoernaal verskyn met volle erkenning aan die fotograwe.

Beoordeling & Regte

• Die beoordelaars se besluit is finaal en geen korrespondensie sal gevoer word nie.
• Die beoordelaars behou die reg voor om nie ‘n prys toe te ken indien geen inskrywings van voldoende gehalte geag word nie.
• Deur in te skryf, verleen fotograwe aan Hortgro die reg om hul beelde op sosiale media en by amptelike geleenthede vir promosiedoeleindes uit te stal.
