SURVEY TO DETERMINE A BASELINE OF CRIME IN RURAL AREAS OF THE WESTERN CAPE PROVINCE

HORTGRO supports a study by Dr Daan Louw investigating crime in rural areas of the Western Cape.

The study will be executed in 4 phases (some of them in parallel). They are:

Phase 1: Project inception and status quo analysis

Organise the effort, project inception (launch the project officially to relevant stakeholders), document/literature review of relevant reports and findings.

Phase 2: Develop a database with contact details of stakeholder in the surveying areas

Arrange one on one sessions with relevant stakeholders (Agri Western Cape, AFASA, farm security firms) to obtain contact details of farmers and other key stakeholders. A sampling of farmers and finalisation of the list of other stakeholders to survey.

Phase 3: Engagement

Marketing the survey, develop an information pamphlet, workshop with the four key representing farmers association in the Western Cape.

Design a structured questionnaire to be used during interviews

Develop a monitoring dashboard to monitor progress with the survey.
