Hortgro welcomes new Resource Management & Sustainability Manager
On 1 April 2024, Hortgro welcomed another passionate member to its team, to fill the role of Resource Management & Sustainability Manager. Nitasha Baijnath-Pillay is an Environmental Specialist who has served the Western Cape and the National Environmental Departments over the past 20 years. She has obtained a Master’s Degree in Environmental Management from the University of Stellenbosch. She has extensive knowledge and experience in the water, air, waste and climate sectors in South Africa, specifically with regards to blue carbon, cleaner production, natural resource quality management, environmental policy development, effluent quality management, environmental health, environmental auditing, marine and freshwater management, marine litter, chemicals & waste management matters.
Nitasha has pioneered and led several projects over the past 20 years, some of which have been embarked on for the first time in South Africa and Africa. She has represented South Africa’s interests and position on many international agreements and resolutions. Prior to joining Hortgro, her recent focus has been on working closely with private sector, governments, academia and community constituencies in developing and implementing plans that facilitate growth in the Oceans/Blue Economy Sector of South Africa. Now, she is looking forward to making an indelible contribution to the Deciduous Fruit Industry of South Africa.
She enjoys watching the sun rise, celebrating life’s treasures, living in the present moment and making a positive contribution. She is appreciative of local talent and loves exploring our beautiful country with her family and fur babies.
