Our Pome and Stone fruit growers are facing increasing water scarcity in regions like the Western Cape, making efficient, expert-guided, and sustainable water management critical to long-term viability. To date, Hortgro has funded several water-related research studies that can be found here.

Hortgro is finalising its Water Response Strategy for the Deciduous Fruit Industry (DFI) in South Africa, which provides an assessment of the availability of the current resources and our future water resource needs, links to other existing strategies, such as the Climate Change Response Strategy for the DFI, the Updated Groundwater Study for the Western Cape, and the Provincial Response Strategy. Key stakeholder engagements have concluded, and the recommended adaptation responses and actions are set out in the Draft Water Response Strategy for the DFI.
