HORTGRO SURVEY: Skills development

Hortgro is currently conducting a study on how best it can expand its facilitation role in skills development in the deciduous fruit industry. In this task, we are assisted by Joy van Biljon and Johann Engelbrecht. Hortgro wishes to appeal to you to assist in the survey as accurately and completely as possible. Your participation is highly appreciated.

PURPOSE OF THIS RESEARCH:

Training, skills and capacity building programmes are currently fragmented within the pome and stone fruit industries with very limited coordination from the various training organisation in terms of their training and skills programmes. Furthermore, these programmes are often limited to specific production areas due to resource constraints with many efforts focusing on compliance rather than people development. This research aims to assist Hortgro to coordinate and expand human development efforts in the deciduous fruit industry.

PURPOSE OF THE INTERVIEWS:

To identify gaps in skills sets for commercial deciduous fruit enterprises with the purpose of aligning training initiatives to address gaps.
